About Us

Members of the National Association of Press Agencies are among the most professional and experienced freelance journalists and photographers working in the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond.

Founded in 1982, the Association draws the majority of its membership from the premier agencies providing news, pictures and features from every town and city in the UK. However, its membership also includes a number of agencies operating from the EU and the USA.

NAPA is a self-help body, administered on a largely voluntary basis by members of the Association. Its main objectives are to further the interests of its members and maintain professional standards of conduct.

The UK has long led the set the pace for the world's media in having an informal network of agencies providing stories and pictures to the highest standards, on a freelance basis. The advent of digital technology has seen new agencies around the world follow the model long established by founding members of NAPA.

Most our agencies cover a geographic area or specialist field of interest others act as international syndication agencies. If you want coverage in a particular location, or if you have a story to offer, you will find the appropriate agencies listed on our Members' Directory.
