These hapless thieves made a Lidl mistake when they tried to break into a supermarket using a mechanical digger - and brought the whole shop down on top of them.
The gang - who were after the shop's safe - had to flee empty handed when the roof quite literally fell in on their scheme in Bruggen, Germany.
One neighbour told police: "There was a loud rumbling and a crack and when I looked out that branch of Lidl was suddenly just rubble."
"I saw four men running away covered in dust," he added.
Police found a Volvo with British number plates dumped nearby, which they believe was the crooks' getaway car.
The digger - pinched from a local building site - was found with its engine still running close to a stolen Transit van, which police say was to be used to carry the safe...
