A life-size nude sculpture by Turner Prize-winning artist Antony Gormley has had its manhood removed with an angle grinder, say police in Kanisfluh, Austria.

The work - on a mountain peak at more than 6,000ft above sea level - is one of 100 'suicide sculptures' due to be returned to Britain after being on show in remote Alpine locations for two years.

A police spokesman told local media: "Hikers reported the damage on May 16 but it could have happened at any time before then."

"We have not found the missing piece yet," they added.

The controversial sculptures - usually sited on high buildings in cities - have caused panic around the world as passers by dial 999 to report suicide attempts.
