Victim Konstantine Myakush, 38 - from the Russian capital, Moscow - was on a family outing when he was felled by a stray arrow that went right through his skull, say police.

Surgeons who removed the shaft said that if had been just a single millimetre to the left it would have pieced his brain.

"He would have been dead by now. It's a miracle that he survived," said a hospital spokesman.

Archery club officials have suspended an instructor pending an investigation and have agreed to end outdoor practice sessions.
